If you want to argue for Stennis, say “A lynching would be a bad idea” when you have that option near the end. When you progress as far as you can on that other quest, which you should do immediately, you'll be returned to this quest to explain whether you think Stennis is guilty or not. See the walkthrough for that quest for detailed information about how to proceed. Note that at this point in the game, it's easy to mess up and disable some optional quests worth good experience points, so make sure that you start by talking to one of the peasants (no one else!) and you will activate a new story quest called The Walls Have Ears. He buys you some time so that you can question people and get more information on which to base a decision. Start forward and there's another scene, this one featuring Iorveth.
